In life I was never comfortable with rituals or rites, or long goodbyes. I always preferred concise and direct communications. My death is no different. So I’ll get right to it, especially since I always enjoyed having the last word.
I’ve finally leveled up and my last meeting is over. CL and I will be drinking some scotch shortly. But before I leave I wanted you to know that there will be no memorial service. There’s no need.
“the world was created for me”
Sanhedrin 37a:15
I will be cremated and my ashes will be scattered.
“And I am dust and ashes”
Genesis 18:27
If I did or said something that caused you harm or hurt, please forgive me.
“All my ancient twisted karma, from beginningless greed, hate, and delusion born through body, speech, and mind I now fully repent.”
Avatamsaka [Flower Ornament] Sutra
And if you think you said or did something that harmed or hurt me, know that all is forgiven.
I wish to leave the way I entered – empty-handed, without this or that, without possessions.
The good renounce everything.
Dhammaphada: Panditavagga [The Wise] 83
Treat others as you wish to be treated, that’s the final bit of wisdom I wish to leave you with.
“Tzedakah [charity, also righteousness] and acts of kindness are the equivalent of all the mitzvot [good deeds] of the Torah.”
Jerusalem Talmud, Pe’ah 1:1.
If you have a kind, fun or outrageous memory, post it in the comments below so others can reflect on it and my life in the hopes that my memory brings you continued joy.
